Art Review

Today in the Audience section there was a review for the show at the library, Majesty of Trees, that has one of my photographs. My first art review - wow, this is so exciting! This is the link so you can read it, too:
This photo is part of the art installation at the library, commemorating Herbie, the oldest Dutch elm in Maine that had to come down this summer due to Dutch Elm disease. A printmaker made a woodcut and printed over 100 yards of fabric that covers the walls and ceiling in this reading room. The pods were created by other artists to represent the seeds from this majestic trees.

Fixer Upper

I had to pull over when I saw this sign. For sale? I laughed out loud as I took photos. The house seems to have a few structural issues!

Ta Da!

It's been a busy week so I haven't been able to post lately. We had a little pumpkin carving this weekend and discovered a new use for wood chisels! One of my major projects, however, has been developing a website and I'm very excited to announce that as of today I have one. It is a work in progress as I am building it myself but I am pleased with the results thus far. And I have learned so much! It will eventually have a gallery for photo session proofs so that clients can view their photos and order online. Pretty cool. My web address is, so check it out!

This time of year is such a beautiful palette. Everyday is changing and even the time of day makes such a difference in lighting. This tree was glowing mid afternoon. It's such a classic New England shot and I couldn't resist!

On Location

This weekend I took a Portable Portrait lighting workshop taught by Sid Ceasar in Exeter, NH. It was awesome! I was thrilled with my images and techniques that I learned. I can't wait to try it out in my next photo session.

I just submitted my piece for the upcoming art show entitled The Majesty of Trees at the Merrill Memorial Library in Yarmouth. I have been on a photo hunt and exploring tree options but I really wanted something different. William asked me what I was doing as I was photographing the canopy of trees out back. I said "just look how tall these trees are, William!" and he did...and I knew at that moment I had my shot. I can't wait to see it with the rest of the show!

I found this blossom a week ago on a crab tree outside of St. Bart's. It was even more beautiful today and such a contrast to the berry next to it, which is the norm for this time of year. I love that boldness and uniqueness and the joy of discovering it.
